Are you eating your vegetables? This laser can tell you

23 hrs.

Invasive tests and unreliable recall make getting good information on food intake difficult for nutritionists and healthy eaters alike. A new device may allow doctors to tell how well you've been eating after doing nothing but shining a laser on your skin for 30 seconds.

It's well known among those in the field that what you eat can show externally ? and not just in your waistline?or smeared on your sleeve. As the body metabolizes certain things, like vegetables, some of the byproducts make their way to your skin, your hair, even your eyes. You are what you eat, and apparently you look like it too.

But only in subtle ways: a vegetable-rich diet will produce lots of what are known as skin carotenoids. They accumulate in the skin and can be measured to infer one's eating habits. But no one wants to give skin samples, and doctors would rather not waste time sending them in to the lab. Luckily, a chance meeting between two experts?produced something better.

Susan Mayne, a nutritional epidemiologist at Yale, happened to sit next to a laser physicist from the University of Utah on the way to a conference. By the time their?16-hour flight was over, they were drafting a grant proposal.

Using a technique called resonance Raman spectroscopy, results can be gotten in as little as a minute simply by shining a special blue laser on a person's palm and observing the results. Thirty seconds of laser, 30 seconds of processing on the computer, and your skin carotenoid levels are there for you and your doctor to talk about.

The test is non-invasive, cheap to administer and quick. It's so easy to use that one researcher managed to check the levels of 60 children in one afternoon. It could even be done while they napped.

It's not perfect; no one knows yet just how long it takes for the levels of carotenoids to build up or fade away in the skin, and they're not sure whether it will work on people with different levels of pigmentation in the skin. The technique?is promising and its?creators are already imagining many applications, but it's still in a fairly early phase and would face years of clinical testing before being deployed widely.

St. Louis Online Gaming Company Accused of Fraud ? CBS St. Louis

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. ? Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan announced Thursday a securities fraud action against MVP Network, Inc., and Paul A. Schneider of St. Louis, Mo., concerning the marketing and sales of MVP stock after the company went into receivership.

According to the cease and desist order issued by officials in Carnahan?s Securities Division, Schneider allegedly misrepresented himself and MVP while offering and selling shares of stock in the company. MVP was placed into receivership in April 2010. But in trying to sell MVP stock, Schneider allegedly did not tell investors that MVP was in receivership or that Concord Bank had possession of all MVP assets. He also allegedly failed to mention a September 2010 judgment in excess of $4 million issued against MVP and others.

?Investors deserve to know all the facts about a company when someone is pitching them to buy stock or invest in the company?s future,? Carnahan said. ?For instance, if a company has serious financial or legal troubles, investors need to know that before they purchase stock.?

The order further alleges that Schneider offered and sold over $35,000 in MVP stock to investors after the company was in receivership and all of his interest in MVP stock was assigned to Concord Bank. Schneider allegedly told these investors to wire or send investment funds to a bank account he opened under a company owned by his step-daughter. When contacted by the Missouri Securities Division, the step-daughter allegedly claimed she did not know about the account or authorize Schneider to use the account.

MVP and Schneider face up to $20,000 in penalties and the possibility of paying costs of the investigation and full restitution to the harmed investors. Respondents have 30 days to request a hearing and contest this matter. The Securities Division is cooperating in this matter with other law enforcement agencies.

For more information regarding investments and fraud protection, or for information regarding a company or representative, visit the Missouri Secretary of State?s online Investor Protection Center at www.MissouriInvestorProtection.gov or call the toll-free Investor Protection Hotline at 1-800-721-7996.

Computer virus briefly hits Iran's oil industry

(AP) ? Iran's key oil industry was briefly affected by the powerful computer virus known as "Flame" that has unprecedented data-snatching capabilities and can eavesdrop on computer users, a senior Iranian military official said Wednesday.

The comment is the first direct link between the emergence of the new malware and an attack inside a highly sensitive computer system in Iran, which counts on oil revenue for 80 percent of its income. The full extent of last month's disruptions has not been given, but Iran was forced to cut Internet links to the country's main oil export terminal presumably to try to contain the virus.

It would be the latest high-profile virus to penetrate Iran's computer defenses in the past two years, boosting speculation that Israeli programmers could have struck again.

Experts see technological links between Flame and the highly focused Stuxnet virus, which was tailored to disrupt Iran's nuclear centrifuges in 2010. Many suspect Stuxnet was the work of Israeli intelligence.

Gholam Reza Jalali, who heads an Iranian military unit in charge of fighting sabotage, claimed that Iranian experts had detected and defeated the "Flame" virus. He told state radio that the oil industry was the only governmental body seriously affected and that all data that had been lost were retrieved.

"This virus penetrated some fields. One of them was the oil sector. Fortunately, we detected and controlled this single incident," Jalali said. "We could also retrieve the information that was lost."

Jalali said there has been no report of any other governmental agency being affected by the virus.

Iran's government-run Computer Emergency Response Team Coordination Center has said the highly sophisticated Flame virus appeared linked to espionage, but cited no specific country or source. International suspicion, however, immediately fell on Iran's archfoe Israel.

Israel's vice premier did little to deflect suspicion about the country's possible involvement in the cyberattack.

"Whoever sees the Iranian threat as a significant threat is likely to take various steps, including these, to hobble it," Moshe Yaalon told Army Radio when asked about Flame on Tuesday. "Israel is blessed with high technology, and we boast tools that open all sorts of opportunities for us."

Ali Hakim Javadi, Iran's deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technology, was quoted by the official IRNA news agency as saying Wednesday that Iranian experts have already produced an anti-virus capable of identifying and removing Flame from computers.

The Computer Center "has produced an anti-virus capable of detecting and removing the Flame for the first time in the world," IRNA quoted Javadi as saying. "The anti-virus software was delivered to selected organizations in early May."

The Russian Internet security firm Kaspersky Lab ZAO said the Flame virus is unprecedented in size and complexity.

Kaspersky's conclusion that the virus was crafted at the behest of a national government has fueled speculation it could be part of an Israeli-backed campaign of electronic sabotage against the Jewish state's archenemy.

The virus can activate a computer's audio systems to listen in on Skype calls or office chatter. It can also take screenshots, log keystrokes and ? in one of its more novel functions? steal data from Bluetooth-enabled cellphones.

Aftana.ir, a government-run website, said the Flame has been active since 2010, the same year when a virus known as Stuxnet disrupted controls of some nuclear centrifuges and some other industrial sites in Iran.

Iran has acknowledged that Stuxnet affected a limited number of its centrifuges ? a key component in the production of nuclear fuel ? at its main uranium enrichment facility in the central city of Natanz. But Tehran has said its scientists discovered and neutralized the malware before it could cause serious damage.

Iran says is has previously discovered one more espionage virus, Duqu, but that the malware did no harm Iran's nuclear or industrial sites. Jalali said Flame is the third.

Iran says Stuxnet and other computer virus attacks are part of a concerted campaign by Israel, the U.S. and their allies to undermine its nuclear program and economy.

Andorra Cuts Out Monaco Advantage

Tax havens are great for saving money, but if it's not close to an international airport it's not going to be attractive to those who want one but also want to continue running their business - which is why an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean won't see many high net worth individuals looking to buy a property and take residency there.

But take a State that has an excellent reputation for sport, security and quality of life, put it on the coast of the Mediterranean and fill it with millionaires and billionaires and within fifteen minutes of an international airport - and you have Monaco.

Give it a border with the French Riviera and a short distance from Italy and it's easy to see why Monaco holds such appeal for successful business people who want to live somewhere where they're not paying half and often more of their income in tax and it's easy to understand why they pay top dollar (or in this case Euros) for real estate.

But there is an alternative, and that alternative is Andorra.

It has similarities with Monaco but also differences, and one of the major differences that has put Andorra at a disadvantage for those considering which tax haven to choose is soon to disappear.

Looking at the similarities, both countries (and they are both independent countries, neither of which is a member of the EU) have a zero rate income tax and no inheritance tax, and both have first class medical facilities including modern hospitals with some of the best doctors and surgeons working there.

In order to gain residency both require a bank account to be established locally. The banks in Monaco will often ask for an initial deposit of between 300,000 and a million Euros while the Andorra banks will require a lot less than this. The residency office in Monaco will need to see a certificate from one of the banks in Monaco showing that the deposit has been made. Once residency is granted the money is free to be used for whatever purpose the person who deposited the money feels they want to use it for.

Another similarity is that both require an applicant to have an address within the country. This is via renting or buying, and Andorra is soon changing their rules where the minimum investment in a property in Andorra will be 370,000 Euros. Up to now there has been no established minimum spend.

But there are differences between the two, notably the cost of buying property in Monaco and property in Andorra. A 30m2 studio apartment will cost a million Euros in Monaco, while good two and three bedroom apartments are available for 400,000 Euros and houses from 800,000 Euros when looking at property in Andorra.

For some high net worth individuals the difference in real estate costs between the two isn't as important an issue as how convenient they are for conducting business. Andorra has high speed broadband, better than the UK's, so for those who can do much of their work online, it is an option - both countries are an hour ahead of GMT so doing business with London and New York isn't an issue.

However if that person considering both countries needed to physically meet people for business in different locations around Europe or further afield, Monaco currently wins hands down. Fifteen minutes away by helicopter or 40 minutes by car is Nice International Airport, served by various national and low cost airlines, with flights both in Europe and around the world available for the active businessman - and when compared to a two and a half hour drive from Andorra to Barcelona in Spain or Toulouse in France there is no contest.

But that is set to change with a new helicopter link having been approved recently between Barcelona and Andorra, taking the time down to less than thirty minutes for those who take Andorra residency - and regular flights between the UK and France starting this November at Seu d'Urgell Airport in Spain - a mere fifteen minute drive from the Andorra border, effectively killing off a long held Monaco property advantage.

And with Andorra property a bargain compared to Monaco there could be a few enterpreneurs making their way there in the summer months.

Britain's PM eats humble pie over snack tax

Matt Cardy / Getty Images, file

In days gone, pasties were the food of miners and farmers -- a robust parcel that (so legend has it) could be dropped steaming hot down a mine shaft or thrown over a high hedge to the agricultural laborers on the other side.

By Chris Hampson, NBC News Director of International News

LONDON -- We're a placid bunch, us Brits.

You can call us names and poke us in the eye and we'll pretty much stand there and take it.

So pity the poor misguided chaps who run this country and who decided to try their luck by introducing a tax on ... pasties.

Man the barricades!

For those who are not among the cognoscenti, a pasty is a traditional and tasty food that resembles a meat and potato pie. It has almost iconic status in its place of origin, the distant and beautiful county of Cornwall.

In days gone by, it was the food of miners and farmers -- a robust parcel of pastry (so legend has it) that could be dropped steaming hot down a mine shaft to the menfolk below or thrown over a high hedge to the agricultural laborers on the other side.

According to folklore, in one end there was savory meat, spuds and turnip and -- on the other side of a pastry wall -- fruit jam.? Entree and dessert all in one steaming package.? Genius.

Wpa Pool / Getty Images, file

David Cameron eats a pastry during an election campaign stop on May 1, 2010 in Woodstock, southern England.

No wonder a simpler version was adopted all across the country.? It has become a staple of many a working lunch, snatched from the oven of a high street food store and wolfed down on the nearest bench or at a desk.

Library opened by Mark Twain falls victim to austerity cuts

So into this culinary sanctum stumbled the British government.? Always anxious to raise more cash in these dark days of austerity, the Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne decided back in March to slap a 20 percent tax on hot snacks like pasties, pies and sausage rolls.

The plan was to raise an extra $150 million.

But Osborne -- a millionaire whose diet does not apparently include pasties -- had no idea that he was about to walk into a political furore that we have seldom seen since the 1990 Poll Tax riots.?

"Half-baked," screamed the tabloids.? "Save our pasties," the nation echoed as people licked their lips and bared their teeth.

A newspaper hired an actress dressed as Marie Antoinette to pursue the hapless Chancellor -- a reminder of her infamous quote that led to revolution across the Channel: "Let them (the poor) eat cake."

Justin Tallis / AFP ? Getty Images

Bakers and their supporters hold pastries as they gather outside the prime minister's official residence in London in April to protest and deliver a petition against the so-called pasty tax.

The accident-prone Conservative-led government had walked into a minefield of meat and potato proportions. Politicians rushed to have their photos taken stuffing pasties down their throats.

NBC?News'?UK partner?ITV?News on pasty debate

Even Prime Minister David Cameron was wrong-footed when asked in Parliament when HE had last eaten a pasty.? He claimed to have done so at a shop that closed down some years ago. Ouch!

So yesterday Cameron and Osborne decided on a change of diet: humble pie.

The Sun's front page story on the British government's 'pastygate' climbdown on Tuesday.

In a humiliating climb-down, the government was forced to abandon its snack tax.

Well, almost.? In a wonderfully British muddle, pasties will avoid tax if they are hot but cooling down out of the oven.? If the shop keeps them hot -- that will be another 20 percent please.

Telegraph video: David Cameron remembers his last pasty

No matter.? Today's papers speak for the nation in declaring victory, with the mass market Sun saying it best: "Pasty la vista, taxman."

Peace has broken out in Britain's leafy suburbs and town centers.?One joyous Cornish Member of Parliament said there'd be "dancing in the streets."

But the message to our politicians is clear.

There is, after all, a line you cannot cross.? Our trains may not run when it rains or snows; you may not get through airport passport controls for hours; but mess with our favourite foods and we WILL bite back.

Skin Disorders and Alcohol

Alcoholic beverages such as wine, when consumed in moderation, could prove healthy for you. But, excess alcohol intake can lead to many serious health issues. Skin disorders and alcohol are known to have a direct link. Continue reading to learn about the various skin disorders that could be caused or perhaps aggravated due to excess intake of alcohol.

Skin disorders caused due to alcohol can occur due to various factors. For example, the weakening of the liver reduces its ability to get rid of harmful toxins in the body, consequently affecting the skin. Too much alcohol affects the vitamin content in the body, especially vitamins A and C, the two very important vitamins needed for healthy skin. Alcohol causes short-term and sometimes long-term effects on our skin. Skin problems caused because of alcohol include the following:

Acne:?Too much alcohol consumption makes the liver weak, because the liver needs to work extra to eliminate the harmful toxins which are present in alcohol.

When these toxins are not released from the body, they can lead to acne breakouts. A weak liver can also lead to several other skin as well as health issues.

Red Blotchy Skin:?After a significant amount of alcohol intake, you can notice the skin on your face as well as your body becoming red and blotchy. This is because alcohol dilates the blood vessels, which remain like that until all the alcohol is flushed out of the body. Hence, the skin appears blotchy and red.

Rosacea:?This skin disorder is characterized by the appearance of acne like bumps, pink patches on the face, red eyes and broken blood vessels. Too much alcohol intake can aggravate and even worsen the condition. People who have a fair complexion are known to suffer from this skin disorder, which does not heal until the intake of alcohol is stopped.

Skin Dryness:?Alcohol leads to skin dehydration and makes the skin dry. In case you have skin disorders like eczema and psoriasis, consuming alcohol could make the condition worse.

Wrinkles, Fine lines, and Crow's Feet:?As the skin becomes weak, it leads to the development of wrinkles, and fine lines as well as crow's feet. Too much alcohol intake causes the skin to age much faster.

Skin Paleness:?Even though some individuals experience skin redness after too much alcohol, some people?s skin becomes pale over time. The skin becomes dull and looks weak and tired.

It is vital to avoid or at least restrict the intake of alcohol if you want to maintain healthy and younger looking skin. It is also important to maintain proper skincare, and eat a healthy balanced diet as well as exercise regularly in order to maintain healthy skin.

These days, there are several skincare products and medications available in the market to help deal with various skin disorders. With regards to treating acne, medications such as Azelex cream have proved very effective. Azelex belongs to a category of medications referred to as Dicarboxylic acids, which can be utilized for treating mild as well as moderate acne. You can purchase Azelex from the neighborhood drugstore or order Azelex online. But, it is advised to seek advice from a dermatologist before deciding to Buy Azelex to treat acne.

Radioactive bluefin tuna crossed the Pacific to US

New research found increased levels of radiation in Pacific bluefin tuna caught off the coast of Southern California. Scientists said the radiation found in the fish came from Japan's Fukushima nuclear plant that was crippled by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. (AP Photo/Chris Park, File)

(AP) ? Across the vast Pacific, the mighty bluefin tuna carried radioactive contamination that leaked from Japan's crippled nuclear plant to the shores of the United States 6,000 miles away ? the first time a huge migrating fish has been shown to carry radioactivity such a distance.

"We were frankly kind of startled," said Nicholas Fisher, one of the researchers reporting the findings online Monday in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

The levels of radioactive cesium were 10 times higher than the amount measured in tuna off the California coast in previous years. But even so, that's still far below safe-to-eat limits set by the U.S. and Japanese governments.

Previously, smaller fish and plankton were found with elevated levels of radiation in Japanese waters after a magnitude-9 earthquake in March 2011 triggered a tsunami that badly damaged the Fukushima Dai-ichi reactors.

But scientists did not expect the nuclear fallout to linger in huge fish that sail the world because such fish can metabolize and shed radioactive substances.

One of the largest and speediest fish, Pacific bluefin tuna can grow to 10 feet and weigh more than 1,000 pounds. They spawn off the Japan coast and swim east at breakneck speed to school in waters off California and the tip of Baja California, Mexico.

Five months after the Fukushima disaster, Fisher of Stony Brook University in New York and a team decided to test Pacific bluefin that were caught off the coast of San Diego. To their surprise, tissue samples from all 15 tuna captured contained levels of two radioactive substances ? ceisum-134 and cesium-137 ? that were higher than in previous catches.

To rule out the possibility that the radiation was carried by ocean currents or deposited in the sea through the atmosphere, the team also analyzed yellowfin tuna, found in the eastern Pacific, and bluefin that migrated to Southern California before the nuclear crisis. They found no trace of cesium-134 and only background levels of cesium-137 left over from nuclear weapons testing in the 1960s.

The results "are unequivocal. Fukushima was the source," said Ken Buesseler of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, who had no role in the research.

Bluefin tuna absorbed radioactive cesium from swimming in contaminated waters and feeding on contaminated prey such as krill and squid, the scientists said. As the predators made the journey east, they shed some of the radiation through metabolism and as they grew larger. Even so, they weren't able to completely flush out all the contamination from their system.

"That's a big ocean. To swim across it and still retain these radionuclides is pretty amazing," Fisher said.

Pacific bluefin tuna are prized in Japan where a thin slice of the tender red meat prepared as sushi can fetch $24 per piece at top Tokyo restaurants. Japanese consume 80 percent of the world's Pacific and Atlantic bluefin tuna.

The real test of how radioactivity affects tuna populations comes this summer when researchers planned to repeat the study with a larger number of samples. Bluefin tuna that journeyed last year were exposed to radiation for about a month. The upcoming travelers have been swimming in radioactive waters for a longer period. How this will affect concentrations of contamination remains to be seen.

Now that scientists know that bluefin tuna can transport radiation, they also want to track the movements of other migratory species including sea turtles, sharks and seabirds.

Standing Up for Yourself - The Self Improvement Blog

By Arthur Wenk -

Do you ever have the feeling that the rest of the world acts as if you?re not there? That you don?t really count? This happens when you have a core belief that says ?I don?t matter.?

How does this happen? Infants expect to receive certain vital messages from their caregivers: ?You are valued. You are accepted. You are loved. You are understood. You are respected.? Children who receive these messages develop self-confidence and a healthy sense of their own place in the world.

Children who fail to receive these messages know (emotionally, not rationally) that something is wrong, and they are entirely correct. But they go on to an incorrect conclusion: if something is wrong, it must be my fault. (Remember, this takes place well before the development of a child?s powers of reasoning.) In response to this belief a child adopts one of the following strategies:

(1) Become invisible (if I can?t be seen, maybe the problem will go away or I won?t be blamed).

(2) Numb out (if I can?t get the affection I need anyway, it?s better not to need affection).

(3) Become perfect-perfect in behavior, in school, in sports, or whatever (if I?m perfect, they?ll have to love me).

Underlying all of these strategies is the basic belief: I don?t matter; I don?t count.

Years of this approach to life produces a philosophy, if you can call it that, of ?I?ll have whatever you?re having.? This pattern makes for a very docile, easy-to-get-along-with person, but one completely lacking in self-esteem and incapable of being a partner in the best sense of the word.

As an adult, how can you reverse this pattern? Long-held core beliefs are difficult to change, but we have a powerful tool in the form of cognitive dissonance. The emotional and rational sides of the brain hate to be in conflict (cognitive dissonance). When conflict occurs, the emotional brain (your inner five-year-old) invariably wins, as the rational mind invents reasons-we call them rationalizations-to justify the capitulation.

You?ve probably heard the phrase ?Fake it till you make it.? If you consistently act in a way that contradicts your core beliefs, the rational mind eventually comes around and adopts a new self-belief to accommodate the actions.

Here?s how it works: in every possible situation, ask yourself ?What do I want?? This simple question may prove difficult to answer if you?ve spent years saying ?I?ll have whatever you?re having.? You may not even know what you want. But you can develop self-awareness and self-esteem like any other underused muscle. Just keep at it.

You may find the second part of the exercise more difficult: you must announce what you want. I?m not saying you must demand it or insist on it-you?re never going to become a controlling, bossy person-but you must voice it. After all, isn?t everyone entitled to give an opinion? That everyone includes you.

So when the group discusses where to eat or what movie to see, you will no longer sit out the discussion and wait to go along. You will now announce, ?I?d like Chinese,? or ?I?d like to see the new George Clooney movie.? These simple words may dismay friends who have always thought of you as someone who can?t say ?Boo,? but remember, everyone is entitled to hold and voice an opinion.

And when you express your opinion, for goodness sake don?t end the statement with a question mark, as if to apologize for the amount of air you consume. Sit or stand up straight, look someone in the eye, and declare your desires in a measured, confident tone. (Hearing that voice for the first time may surprise you, too.)

If you want to accelerate the process, buy a copy of Patrick Fanning?s book Self-Esteem, or Harriet Braiker?s The Disease to Please, and do the exercises as you read. You may also require the assistance of a psychotherapist, but just teaching yourself to ?walk the talk? may have a dramatic effect.

Arthur Wenk, a psychotherapist practicing in Oakville, Ontario, combines cognitive-behavioral therapy (discovering techniques for producing immediate changes) with a psychodynamic approach that helps make changes permanent by addressing the root causes of mental health problems. $129 for a One-Night Stay at Salishan Spa & Golf Resort in Gleneden Beach, OR (Up to $226 Value)

Pacific Northwest Lodge with Spa, Golf Course, and Private Beach Access

Flanked by beach and bluffs, Salishan Spa & Golf Resort spreads across 350 wooded acres accessible via a private, spruce-lined drive. When the hotel was built in 1965, original owner John D. Gray wanted it to match the beauty of its knockout setting. The interior incorporates native stone, intricate woodwork, hand-blown glass, and contemporary artwork, taken from Gray?s own collection, showcasing more than 100 regional artists.

Vaulted ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows give guest rooms a spacious feel. Private balconies overlook Siletz Bay, the forest, or the 18-hole golf course, which was

redesigned by renowned architect Peter Jacobsen. Old-growth timber flanks the front nine, and links-style fairways weave through the back nine. After a round of golf or a tennis match, you'll have five dining options, ranging from a deli to an upscale steak house boasting one of the largest wine cellars in Oregon.

Salishan's spa is a destination in its own right. Ranked No. 13 on the list of the Top 250 Spas by Cond? Nast Traveler readers, the full-service facility offers facials, massages, and professional hair, nail, and waxing treatments. Even if you only stop by for a quick sweat in the sauna, be sure to stop by the spa's alfresco lounge area for the incredible bay views.

Gleneden Beach, Oregon: Small Coastal Community Set amid Beachfront State Parks

Located on the central stretch of Oregon's 363-mile coastline, Gleneden Beach is only slightly larger than the resort itself. The tiny windswept town is home to two annual kite festivals and is a good spot for testing the holding power of one?s hairspray. It?s situated between two larger coastal cities, Newport and Lincoln City, both of which abound with opportunities for beachcombing, whale watching, and browsing in boutiques and bookstores. Newport?s Oregon Coast Aquarium features outdoor exhibits where harbor seals, otters, and sea lions frolic in their natural habitats. A 200-foot underwater tunnel provides near 360-degree views of sharks, giant octopi, and other creatures of the deep.

(ALSO: Hi there Chloe! Sorry I haven't posted much on the other roleplays, I've just..been..really really REALLY distracted lately, so I can barely concentrate. (Summer vacation, getting ready for the next school year, watching anime nonstop (this, this, I've been crying so much from an anime I've watched. It's..IT'S SO SAD ;A;) ) I hope this will be an awesome fun roleplay!

EDIT: By the way, Chloe, I find it odd how we both always end up in the same roleplay. Neh, neh, I promise I'm not stalking you! I PROMISEEE.

6+ Great Eco-friendly Games for Green Family Game Night | Inhabitots

Family Playing Board Game At Home ? Image from Shutterstock
Hasbro coined the term, "Family Game Night," and while we don't love that Hasbro is lacking eco-friendly game options, we do 100% agree that family game night is an excellent plan. Regular family game nights help your family create tradition and build memories. Family game night can be fun and educational at the same time, teaching both little ones and older kids skills related to patience, perseverance and teamwork. Game night can help you relax after a long day, allows you to have great conversations with your family and best of all, offers an alternative to all that screen time kids get nowadays. Plus, game night is for everyone. There are plenty of games for younger and older kids. If you want to play a more advanced game, you can always create teams, mixing younger kids in with older players. At our house we usually play a short game each weeknight night and longer, more in-depth games on weekend?evenings. Some of our favorite games include Yahtzee, Cranium, Apples to Apples, Name 5 and many others, but?unfortunately, these games are missing an important eco-friendly component. If it's green games you're looking for, you have to look hard, because they're rare. Lucky for you, we've rounded up some of our favorite eco-minded game ideas below. Check them out, then schedule your own family game night ASAP.

Priest apologizes for dropping f-bomb on Facebook

By Helen A.S. Popkin

One month after he warned about the employment pitfalls of Internet oversharing in a newsletter to his congregation, a parish priest apologized for his own inappropriate comments posted on Facebook and now finds his own job in danger, the UK Telegraph reports.

"I think I will put my feet up. I?ve done f--- all today other than jazz lesson and visit a friend. I hear the fizz of tonic in my gin beckoning," Canon Paul Shackerley, vicar of the Minster Church of St. George in Doncaster in northern England, wrote in one Facebook post noted in an anonymous letter to Church of England officials.

In another, Shackerley posted, "Alas, I have religion tomorrow. At least I?m not preaching this week. Preaching next week at St Mary Abbotts [sic] Kensington though. Best make that a good one eh?"

There was more.

"P--- myself! H, you are so funny!!!," read one of Shackerley's comments on a friend's Facebook post. "It was good to share over lunch yesterday and at the URC Homelessness 'event?. I say 'event?. It was hardly worship, was it? I hope you managed to get home okay. It was late by the time the URC [United Reformed Church] and Methodists finished. Good job we are Anglicans eh?"

Shackerley also posted photo of himself posing with a snowman, accompanied by the caption, "Forgive my sin of frivolity. Sin is such fun! But I haven?t been having an inappropriate relationship with Snowy, who can longer be called a 'snowman? in the name of political correctness."

According to the Telegraph, copies of the posts were sent to church leaders in an anonymous letter that read in part:

"Your priest colleague uses language that most would find abhorrent for a man in his position.

"His present behaviour makes him totally unfit to serve the minster or the people of Doncaster, and totally unfit to serve the Church at all in the opinion of many Doncaster residents."

Shackerley met with a senior church official on Friday, and officially apologized in a letter, the Associated Press reports. "I have received Paul's letter of apology and have been assured that this will not happen again and that we can now draw a line under this matter," Bishop Peter Burrows said.

In April, Shackerley wrote in a newsletter, "I have known employees (to) receive disciplinary and dismissal notices for inappropriate postings." Now Shackerley serves as model to his congregation, though probably not in the way he had hoped.

Helen A.S. Popkin goes blah blah blah about the Internet privacy. Tell her to get a real job on? Twitter?and/or?Facebook. Also,?Google+.

Breeze of Arab Spring felt on Cannes red carpet

(AP) ? The ripples of the Arab Spring are being felt in summery Cannes, where films from Egypt and Syria, as well as a passionate documentary about the overthrow of Libya's Moammar Gadhafi, are being screened alongside the latest features from the world's heavyweight directors.

On Friday the festival lineup included "The Oath of Tobruk," a highly personal insiders' account of the uprising by writer and philosopher Bernard-Henri Levy, who was accompanied to a photo call by masked Libyan fighters.

In the film, made with photographer Marc Roussel, Levy gives a robust defense of Western military intervention in Libya ? and calls for the world to do the same in Syria, where the regime of President Bashar Assad has been fighting an uprising for more than a year.Levy ? often known simply as BHL ? is a leading public intellectual in France, where he is known for his impassioned political interventions, dapper dress and mane of salt-and-pepper hair.

The movie is revealing about the background to the Libyan conflict, as Levy's bulging contacts book delivers interviews with Nicolas Sarkozy, David Cameron and U.S. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton, as well as with members of Libya's new political and military leadership.

Levy was pivotal in persuading Sarkozy, then France's president, to back air strikes to aid the Libyan rebels, a decision taken up by Cameron, the British leader, and later by President Barack Obama.

Dismissed by critics as an egotist, Levy is not shy about extolling his place in history, explaining in the film's voiceover his personal desire to overthrow a dictator and right a wrong that has been gnawing at him for 20 years ? "the bleeding wound of Bosnia," where he says intervention could have saved thousands of lives.

"I've borne the sorrow and the mourning of Bosnia for 20 years," Levy told The Associated Press. "And this is what Sarkozy, Cameron and Clinton say (in the film)? we did this because of Bosnia. Nevermore Bosnia. Nevermore Srebrenica."

The film, which has been picked up by the Weinstein Co. for distribution in the United States, is open to the criticism of self-centeredness. Some may prefer to see the Libyan story told by Libyans.

"I am sure the Libyans will themselves tell the story of their liberation and their revolution," Levy said. "This is my version. It's personal, subjective. I tell things I was part of and only this. I don't pretend to any exhaustiveness. It is my part of truth."

Levy used the platform of Cannes to urge the international community to take direct military action in support of the rebels in Syria ? something for which there is, as yet, little appetite among governments.

"Syria is a scandal," Levy said. "Syria is a shame. All those who say that situations are difficult are just trying to find excuses for their cowardice. If I had a wish today, it would be to make people understand that what was doable in Benghazi is doable in Homs, Aleppo and Deraa."

Elsewhere at the festival, Arab filmmakers are telling stories ? often against considerable odds.

Bassam Chekhes is the first Syrian director ever to be in competition at Cannes, with his short film "Waiting for P.O. Box."

The director said coming to Cannes was "a dream" ? and a vital link to other filmmakers around the world.

"The festival, when you are around you can fell the similarity of our humanity and the feeling that we are 30 year old men who have the same problem all round the world," he said.

One of the 22 films competing for the Palme d'Or is "After the Battle," by Egypt's Yousry Nasrallah.

The story of the relationship between a wealthy Tahrir Square revolutionary and a poor horseman from the Pyramids who has been involved in an attack on protesters, it was filmed in the chaotic interval between the overthrow of Mubarak and this week's presidential election in Egypt.

Nasrallah said the film crew members were worried about intimidation from supporters of the former regime or Islamists who condemn cinema as a sin. They filmed using a code name to make the movie sound like a romantic comedy.

The director said movie makers have a duty to be bold, despite political uncertainty and the rising influence of religious fundamentalists.

"Arab cinema is trying to liberate itself," he told reporters. "It is trying to break censorship taboos and social taboos. Because this is the only way you can make movies.

"You don't want to go watch a film where you feel the film itself is a prison. You want to feel the filmmaker is liberated and thus liberating you too."
